Many craft theorists discuss the oppositional play involved in using handcraft techniques in contemporary contexts. My multi-media art work explores this concept through the disruption of printed artifacts with materials such as fiber, thread, acrylic paint and the use of methods such as collage, weaving, and needlework. My feminist artwork uses the techniques of handcraft to comment on the antiquated notions of domesticity and female oppression. I have had multiple exhibits in Toronto, Canada and is represented by Galerie Le Royer in Montreal .
In 2019 I moved to San Francisco to teach design at San Francisco State University. I am now a member of the San Francisco Women's Artist Gallery and am actively creating new works.
spread love
A new project in dark times
There is so much hate speech, so many acts of violence, so much misogyny, so much racism, so much negativity. My friends and colleagues and family members are visibly suffering from the onslaught of bad, scary news. So I have decided to spread love in hopes of bringing a little more light into the world.
This new project is based on craftivist principles of Personal Expression, Community Engagement, Sustainability, and Accessibility. The project invites community to help spread messages of love in their communities.
The spread love project uses creative making as a way to foster connection, kindness, and social engagement in this time of political turmoil. As part of this project, I am offering free craftivism workshops to local organizations, programs, and communities who might benefit from a creative, reflective, and accessible making experience. The workshop is designed for participants of all skill levels and emphasizes inclusivity, collaboration, and hands‑on creative expression culminating in a public installation.
