New weaving inspired by the Pacific Ocean, February 2023
This body of work is a spin-off of my Sticks & Stones series. Rather than drawing inspiration from name-calling and insults, I use slang drawn from multiple generations, with a particular focus on Gen Z. Each word is hand-cut from Japanese paper and stitched directly onto found photographs. The photographs, sourced from thrift shops and vintage stores, are given a new context through this intervention. I see this project as a way of offering these women a renewed life and meaning while creating opportunities for connection and dialogue across generations of women.
See them all at City Art Cooperative for the month of July 2026 (828 Valencia St, San Francisco).
